Our Story:

Dr. Frayser was born and raised in Southern California where he lived for most of his younger years. From the time he graduated high school to his late 20s, Dr. Frayser worked at various jobs but didn't find anything to his liking until he started taking college courses at age 27.

"I started taking some science classes, and found that I enjoyed them and excelled in those classes," he said.

These few science courses that he enjoyed gave Dr. Frayser a sense that he had finally found his niche and he began thinking about a career in medicine. "It was what I was most interested in."

Starting later in life than most of his classmates, a 33-year-old Scott Frayser enrolled in medical school at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa where he received scholarships to fund his academic training. Following medical school, Dr. Frayser moved to Denver for his internship and residencey in internal medicine. There, he became board certified in internal medicine and worked in that discipline for several years at St. Luke's Medical Center.

But by 1997, Dr. Frayser began looking in another direction. A friend of his, Tom Campbell, had recently returned from Flordia where he (Tom) had undergone a 700 graft hair transplant procedure. (By the way, the procedure cost Tom $4,900 = "ouch!").

Dr. Frayser's conversations with Tom caused both of them to have a light bulb go off above their heads.

Affordable Hair Transplants for Everyone
"Performing hair transplants struck me as something that would be fun," Dr. Frayser said. "People are excited about knowing they are going to look better after the procedure." Concentrating solely on hair transplants was the positive environment Dr. Frayser was looking forward to working in, he explained.

With their own money to invest, Dr. Frayser and Tom Campbell founded The Hair Transplant Center. He took care of the medical side and Tom managed the business end. Together, they built the business with a philosophy to make hair transplants affordable to everyone.

Ten to 20 years ago, the price per graft was $18-20. Improvements in the procedure and more market competition forced the price down. Dr. Frayser took the price drop in hair grafts to its lowest level by offering the lowest price per hair graft in the hair transplant industry today.

Why do other firms still charge 2-3 times as much? Dr. Frayser said one of the reasons are high overhead. The Hair Transplant Center doesn't spend millions of dollars on television advertising and infomercials.

"Most of it (higher costs with other hair clinics) is because of high overhead in advertising, radio, local newspapers, expensive videos, books - that costs money. We keep our cost low by funneling everything into the internet," Dr. Frayser added.

Since it was founded, Dr. Frayser and Tom Campbell began recruiting to have one of the most experienced staffs of any hair clinic in the world. Nurse Betty Studier and the entire medical team have more than 68 years of combined experience in hair transplants which solidified The Hair Transplant Center as one of the top firms in the world.

Their formula of high quality service for a low price has added to their experience and education in hair transplant procedures by attracting nearly 1,000s clients since it was founded 10 years ago.

It Takes a Special Kind of Person
Although one might think that peforming a hair transplant procedure could get repetitive and "boring" after it is performed 1,000 times, Dr. Frayser, Betty, and the team would all agree that each case is different.

"In any procedure there are certain aspects that are repetitive," Dr. Frayser said. "But when it comes to implanting the grafts, it takes a special kind of person."

Betty Studier has taught many other hair transplant physicians how to perform hair grafting procedures.

Dr. Frayser explained it takes a very, very, very patient and detail oriented person to implant 1,000 to 2,500 hair grafts. But that's not all it takes. An artistic eye and hand is needed.

Each Hair Transplant Procedure is Unique
"Everyone's head is different. So as far as cutting the grafts (from the donor strips), keeping them healthy, the way they are implanted by orienting the direction in which they'll grow and deciding which grafts go where -That's the artistic aspect you can't train everyone to do," Dr. Frayser said.

You either have it or you don't.

And the problem with other hair clinics is they try to train these natural talents to unexperienced medical staff members and are only now discovering with their high turnover rate, this strategy doesn't work. This appears to be true as clients of other hair clinics report having one team perform their first procedure, and a different team for their second hair transplant.

"You can't just take a graft and stuff it in. It won't grow right and it may not survive," Dr. Frayser said.

Now in their 13th year of business, the entire staff of The Hair Transplant Center and its 1,000s of clients have proven that when the light bulb went off above Dr. Frayser and Tom's heads 13 years ago, it was shining brightly. But it is probably Tom who sums up the success of The Hair Transplant Center most easily.

"We knew that hair transplant procedures could be performed better for less cost and we proved that."
